Terms of Use
Who we are
Saltwater is operated by Running Cat Development, a trading name of Alexey Gvozditskiy, a sole proprietorship registered in Poland (“we”). Full legal details are in our Legal notice. These terms are an agreement between you and us about using the Saltwater app and this website. By using Saltwater you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
1. Who can use Saltwater
You must be at least 13 (or the minimum age required in your country to use online services like this). If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or guardian where the law requires it. You are responsible for the device and sign-in you use.
2. Not medical or crisis care
Saltwater helps you notice and keep track of your tears and feelings. Tear-volume figures are playful estimates, not measurements. Facts and “science” content are informational and may simplify the studies they cite. Nothing in the app is a diagnosis, treatment or professional advice. Please talk to a doctor or a mental-health professional about anything that worries you. The support links in the app point to third-party resources that we do not run or control. We can’t monitor entries and can’t respond to emergencies. In an emergency, call your local emergency services.
3. Your account and your content
- You own what you write and log (“your content”). You give us a limited licence to store, process and display it so the app can work, including showing it to the audience you choose.
- Private is the default. You decide who can see each cry. Remember that people you share with can see it, and could screenshot or tell others. Share thoughtfully.
- Keep your sign-in secure. A guest account exists only on your phone’s sign-in; if you lose it, we can’t recover your entries. Linking an account (a Saltwater+ feature) helps.
- You can delete your account and data any time in the app. See our Privacy Policy.
4. Be kind: community rules
Friends, hugs and comments are for support. You agree not to use them to harass, bully, shame or threaten anyone; to post hate, sexual or violent content; to spam; to impersonate others; to share other people’s private information; or to encourage self-harm. Don’t break the law or try to attack, scrape or reverse-engineer the service.
- Report a cry, a comment or a person from within the app. Reports are reviewed by us.
- Block anyone, any time. They can no longer see your cries or contact you.
- The owner of a cry can delete comments on it.
- We may remove content, limit features or suspend or close accounts that break these rules, or that put others at risk. We will try to be fair and, where reasonable, tell you why.
5. Saltwater+ subscriptions
- Saltwater+ is an optional paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country and taxes.
- Free trials, where offered (for example on the yearly plan), turn into a paid subscription at the end unless you cancel before it ends. Offers are shown at purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and period until you cancel, charged to your Apple or Google account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Saltwater+ until the end of the paid period.
- Manage or cancel in your store account settings (iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Android: Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Deleting the app or your Saltwater account does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. We can’t issue them directly.
- Restore purchases from Settings if you reinstall or change phone.
- Your private log and the core social features are free: up to five friends, sharing a cry with all your friends, the friends feed, hugs, comments and notifications about them, and being notified when a friend is crying now. Other features require an active Saltwater+ subscription, including broadcasting a “crying now” timer with live hugs, a close-friends circle and choosing specific people for a cry, more than five friends, account linking and sync across devices, detailed insights, history and statistics beyond the last 30 days, the year recap, widgets, story backgrounds without a watermark, themes and app icons.
- If your subscription ends, features that need it stop working. Friends you already have beyond the free limit stay your friends, but you can’t add new ones without Saltwater+. Your data stays with you.
- Invites. A friend who joins with your invite may receive a short Saltwater+ period (currently 3 days). When a set number of invited friends join (currently 5), you may receive bonus content and, if you don’t already subscribe, a short Saltwater+ period. Invite rewards are promotional, may change or end, and are subject to fair-use checks.
- We may change prices or features of Saltwater+ with notice; changes to price apply on your next renewal and, where required by the store, only after you agree.
6. Our rights in the app
The app, its design, text, illustrations and software belong to us or our licensors. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it. Tear facts cite their sources; those sources belong to their authors.
7. Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Saltwater running but can’t promise it will always be available, error-free or lossless. We may change, pause or end features, and may update these terms; if the change is significant we’ll tell you in the app or here. Continuing to use Saltwater after a change means you accept it.
8. Disclaimer and liability
Saltwater is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or for what other users do or say. Our total liability for any claim related to the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or, if you haven’t paid anything, a nominal amount). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.
9. Ending
You can stop using Saltwater and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections that by nature should continue (such as ownership, liability and disputes) continue after that.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Poland, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live. Disputes go to the courts of Poland, unless the law of your country gives you the right to use your local courts.
